- This Week’s Cover — Alajalov dashed off a rough sketch of this cover idea, and was told, “Go ahead—paint.” So he persuaded a friend, a world-famous New York hat designer, to dream up a unique Easter bonnet for him. He painted this masterpiece on his lady, then hurriedly snatched it off; it was just too becoming to put over his idea. He got another hat from another great designer—and Art Editor Stuart said, “Good job. Except the hat is becoming too big over the idea.” This irked Alajalov no end. “How about this, then?” he snapped, slapping on his lady the remarkable headpiece he had offhandedly drawn in the original sketch. It stayed on. Alajalov forgot to bill us for a hat design, but it’s too late now—the transaction is closed.
