  • The Cover
    • Well, after all the cover journeys that J. Clymer has taken among the charms and glories of inland America, look at what he has bumped into now—an ocean! John C. must feel like Balboa; it’s the Pacific. Here, near Lapush, Washington, people go down to the sea in automobiles to acquire fish, or to play at being fish, or just ecstatically to be. Now behind those rock cathedrals (or would you rather call them sea-going desert mesas?) the ebbing sun mixes colors on its palette to paint a lavender-and-gold sunset. And on the flooding tide the boats head for port—home is the angler, home from the sea. To emphasize what a gifted modern sculptor old Mother Nature is, shouldn’t some pieces of that driftwood be polished up, given abstract names and hung in a museum?
