- Here in western Wyoming, where meadows and mountains mingle, we find a lad with a mingled devotion to two kinds of transportation. He is in that tucked-away corner where weary old machines go to snooze in restful peace, a sort of Old Machines’ Home. A younger generation of machines does the work now—though given sharp eyes you can see one chap in artist John Clymer’s ranchscape pitching hay with his own two paddies. If Dobbin, there, were articulate he might advise his master, “Oh, get a horse!” Once the boy yearned to do just that, but now his yearning is for more horsepower than a horse. Yet Dobbin needn’t worry: he’ll always be needed to go where no car can gallop, and always be loved more than anybody can love an internal-combustion engine.
