  • THIS WEEK’S COVER
    • STEVAN DOHANOS’ cover depicts one of those tense moments in a baseball game in the South Pacific League which a Marine Air Corps team, playing a Bougainville native nine, seems to have got a tough decision and has sent its best doucher in to pitch to the native umpire. In the background, a Corsair is being patched up. Mr. Dohanos had the expert advice of another artist, Lt. Howard Munce, USMC, who served at Bougainville and Guam. Lieutenant Munce, who worked with Dohanos before the war, came home on a thirty-day leave and described details used in the painting. He is the man in the campaign hat standing in the background at the left. Lieutenant Munce later returned to his command and fought at Iwo Jima.
