- The painting on this week’s cover is one we interpret as its way to amuse, where Alexander Brook’s work usually is seen, and the art department presents it in collaboration with the artist. Brook’s model, wearing one of Mrs. Brook’s old hats, is a little girl who lives around the corner from the artist’s studio in Savannah, Georgia. The studio is an old warehouse on the Savannah River, and is popular with the kids of the neighborhood because it has a balcony from which to watch river traffic, and also because the Brooks usually are good for a large box of lemonade. The girl, Barbara Ann Sharpe, is seven years old. She won the greatly impressed by her selection as a model; most of the children around that neighborhood have posed for Brook.
