Description
Vogue Magazine February 1, 1961 Dorothy McGowan Cover by Herbert Matter
From a privately held Vogue archive, 1920s–1970s. These were stored away for decades and recently brought back into circulation. We performed light, dry surface cleaning at the outer spine (vacuum/brush/smoke sponge only; no wet methods), then placed each issue in a new archival sleeve.
What to expect: honest vintage traits, binding wear or small splits, staple-rust halos, edge toning, and period shelf dust that can appear as black residue along the spine. Interiors are dry and legible. Some copies retain a light vintage paper aroma typical of mid-century magazines.
Each listing shows the exact issue you’ll receive. Any condition materially beyond the above is noted in that item’s description. These characteristics reflect long, earlier storage before we acquired the collection; all items are now housed in clean sleeves and stored upright.
This is an original Vogue magazine issue from February 1, 1961, featuring model Dorothy McGowan photographed by Herbert Matter on the cover. A historic and highly collectible issue, it marks Vogue’s celebrated Special Feature on Mrs. John F. Kennedy, published just after the presidential inauguration. This edition captures the elegance of the early 1960s—combining fashion, art, and cultural commentary with a focus on the new First Lady’s iconic grace and the rise of a distinctively American style.
